RAILWAYS 2 lost to Silver Saints from Chatsworth at the Northcroft Grounds in the 40 over Challenge Reserve league at the weekend.

Losing the toss, Railways were sent in to bowl and a spirited bowling attack helped dismiss the Chatsworth side in the 23rd over for 134 runs.

Club chairman, Anthony Chellan commended the bowlers on their performance and sticking to the game plan.

“Chasing that target however was an uphill battle, especially with the pitch deteriorating further on a hot and humid day. As a result, wickets consistently began to tumble,” said Chellan.

“The ball was keeping very low and if you can’t dig them out you are bowled.”

Railways were eventually bowled out for 74.

Following the loss, Chellan said the team will focus more on their batting but he commended the players for the spirit especially their fight against more experienced players.

The team has improved since their last game with ball and bat and Chellan is expecting bigger performances in both departments as their predominantly teenage players grow into senior cricket.

“Our bowling is our strongpoint. We have youngsters with lots of talent, but our batting needs some thought and working on. Once we get that we will be competitive and challenge some of the better sides more,” said Chellan.

Railways 2 will play Hillary/Malvern in Durban South on Sunday.
