Railways taste revenge

2015-11-11 06:01

THE old sporting rivalry between Railways Cricket Club and Verulam continued on Sunday as the two teams, playing in the KZN Cricket Union’s Challenge League, faced off at the Maidstone Cricket Oval.

Railways pulled one back for the club after its second team lost to Verulam 2, three weeks ago.

The game was the opening fixture for both sides in the 50 over format as it marked the beginning of the KZNCU’s 50 over league.

After winning the toss, Railways chose to bat and posted a below par score of 160 in 48 overs on a difficult track.

The pick of the Railways innings was the 75 run second wicket partnership between Trishane Pillay and Vishen Naidoo.

Pillay went on to score 48, Naidoo 24 and Kieran Nohari pitched in with a handy 31 runs.

In response, Verulam was dismissed for 114 runs in the 29th over.

Key wicket-takers for Railways were Sachin Nohari with 4 wickets for 33 runs in 9 overs and Dawood Mather with 2 wickets for 15 runs in 8 overs.
