Wanted suspect arrested: Verulam - A suspect wanted in connection with a house break-in was arrested by members of Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) on Wick Street in the Verulam CBD on Monday 6 February.

Officers received information a week ago that the suspect was being sought by police for a house break-in he committed on Shari Drive in Everest Heights in February 2016.

Police were in possession of a photo of the suspect and requested assistance from Reaction Unit officers to arrest the suspect who was known to them.

While on patrol in the Verulam CBD the suspect was spotted on Wick Street. When he noticed Reaction Unit officers approaching him, he attempted to flee, but was pursued and apprehended. The suspect was handed over to the police and is currently being detained at the Verulam SAPS.

The suspect was arrested on numerous occasions for house break-in and drug related crimes.

In 2014 he stabbed a Rusa officer during a house break-in in Everest Heights. The officer shot him during the scuffle.

Search for missing man: Verulam -

An extensive search was conducted for an individual suspected of falling off a cliff in Everest Heights - Verulam last week.

At approximately 8.45am on Tuesday 7 February officers received a call from a member of public requesting assistance after he heard a man calling for help while he was collecting wood.

Officers were dispatched to the scene and upon arrival were pointed in the direction of a cliff, estimated to be approximately 200 metres high, where the man may have fallen off.

Due to the extensive terrain, the Rusa helicopter was called to assist in conducting an aerial search. Reports from the air confirmed that several tree branches were broken along the face of the cliff.

The Umhlali K9 Search and Rescue Unit conducted an extensive search of the cliff, however the individual could not be located.

20-month-old escapes injury: Verulam - At approximately 4.30pm on Tuesday 6 January members of Reaction Unit South Africa were dispatched to Umdloti Beach Road in Verulam after receiving several reports of a motor vehicle collision.

Upon arrival a VW Polo Vivo and a VW Polo hatchback were found to have collided into each other.

The VW Polo hatchback then knocked into a light pole.

It is alleged that the VW Polo hatchback was travelling in the direction of Umdloti and was turning into a service station when the second vehicle which was travelling in the opposite direction collided head on into it. Both vehicles were extensively damaged.

The occupants of both vehicles including a 20-month-old baby were not injured in the collision.

Taxi overturns: Verulam -

At approximately 6am on Friday 10 February members of Reaction Unit South Africa were dispatched to Havenwood Road in Trenance Park, Verulam after receiving reports of an accident involving a taxi.

Upon arrival a Toyota Hiace taxi was found lying on its side. It is alleged that as the taxi turned from Madrona Drive into Havenwood Road it struck a boulder causing the vehicle to overturn.

The four occupants of the taxi were not injured in the accident.
