AT approximately 9:09om on Sunday night, 12 February members of Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) were dispatched to Pelican Terrace in Dawncrest, Verulam after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, a 30-year- old man was found to have sustained a single gunshot wound to his lower back. He was stabilised on scene before being taken to hospital.

It is alleged that as the victim was about to enter his property, he was accosted by two suspects. One of the suspects was armed with a firearm and shot the victim before fleeing the scene on foot. The injured man managed to seek assistance from neighbours.

The motive for the shooting has not been established at this stage. 

Vehicle damaged after wall collapse: Verulam

At approximately 2:19am on the Monday morning, 13 February members of Rusa were dispatched to Tangerine Street in Verulam after receiving reports of a wall collapse.

Upon arrival, they discovered a retaining wall separating two properties had collapsed onto a Chrysler Voyager causing extensive damage to the vehicle.
No one was injured as the vehicle was unoccupied at the time. The wall is suspected to have collapsed due to the heavy rains.

Vehicle torched after family dispute: Verulam

At approximately 6:25pm on the Wednesday, 15 February 2017 members of Rusa were dispatched to Camphor Close in Trenance Park after receiving reports of a vehicle on fire.

Upon arrival they found a Toyota Condor engulfed in flames. It was established that after a family dispute over the ownership of the vehicle a 31 year old man drove the vehicle to Camphor Close. He then poured petrol over the vehicle and set it alight. The fire department was called to the scene and upon arrival extinguished the fire however, the vehicle was completely destroyed.

Reaction officers arrested the suspect and handed him over to authorities for further investigation.

Blackout results in car accident: Verulam

At approximately 11:52am on Friday, 17 February members of Rusa were dispatched to the R102 near the Verulam intersection after receiving reports of a motor vehicle accident.

Upon arrival a Toyota Corolla was found in the drain separating the north and south bound lanes. The driver and passenger suffered moderate injuries and were treated on scene before being taken to hospital.

It was established that while travelling on the south-bound lane the driver, a paraplegic, suffered a blackout and crashed his specially adapted vehicle into a metal barrier before landing in the drain.
