A 50-year-old woman was injured following a collision at the R102 and Ottawa intersection in Verulam on Monday, September 4.

At approximately 7pm members of Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) were called out to the scene by passing motorists reporting the collision. Upon arrival a Hyundai Atos was found to have collided into the side of a Toyota Corolla.
A passenger in the Toyota Corolla sustained moderate injuries. She was treated on scene before being transported to hospital in a stable condition. The driver of the Hyundai Atos was not injured.


Members of Rusa were dispatched to Sunlark Drive in Oaklands, Verulam after receiving reports of an attempted hijacking and an armed robbery on Monday, September 4.

Upon arrival reaction officers were informed that the victim had stopped outside a home and had got out of his vehicle to use the intercom when he was approached by the suspect.
The suspect drew a firearm and robbed the man of his cash before demanding the keys to his Toyota Corolla which the 23-year-old refused to hand over. The suspect fled the scene on foot after occupants of the home disturbed him.

Officers conducted an extensive search for the gunman who was dressed in blue overalls however, no arrests were made.


The partially decomposed body of Rusa security officer Mduduzi Valiakazi was discovered in a bush near the Sitha Ram informal settlement on Van Rova Road in Tongaat on Wednesday, September 6.

Members of Rusa responded to the scene after receiving a call from a member of public who made the discovery. Upon arrival the body of the slain officer was found in the over grown vegetation. He had sustained a single stab wound to his abdomen.

Valiakazi has been missing since Sunday. It is alleged that he was stabbed by his girlfriend during an argument and attempted to make his way to the main road when he collapsed.

A case of murder is being investigated.


A 23-year-old man sustained minor injuries after his vehicle overturned several times on the north bound lane of the R102 near the Verulam intersection on Thursday, September 7.

Members of Rusa were called out to the scene by passing motorists reporting the accident. Upon arrival a VW Golf 6 GTi was found lying on its side. The driver was assessed by paramedics on scene.

According to witnesses the VW Golf was travelling on the right lane. When the driver applied his brake the vehicle veered suddenly to the right, collided into the metal barrier before overturning several times.
The engine and gear box were found several metres away from the vehicle.


A man was injured after he was run over on Gopalall Hurbans Road in Tongaat on Friday, September 8.

Members of Rusa were dispatched to the scene after receiving several calls from the public reporting the accident. Upon arrival the pedestrian was being treated for his injuries by paramedics from a private ambulance service.

Witnesses reported that the pedestrian was listening to music on his headphones while attempting to cross the busy road. He did not notice an approaching Toyota Hiace taxi resulting in him being run over.


A Honda VFR 400 motorbike that was stolen from Himalaya Drive in Everest Heights was recovered abandoned on Mission Road, Verulam on Saturday, September 9.

Reaction officers were called out to the home after the motorbike was found to be stolen. Upon arrival the owner explained that he had parked it on the property at approximately 9pm and left to visit a friend in Cottonlands, Verulam.
When he returned home at 2:30am he discovered his bike had been stolen. Officers conducted a search for the stolen bike however it could not be located.

Rusa received a call from a resident on Mission Road in Umdloti Heights reporting an abandoned motorbike lying on the side of the road. After interviewing residents officers established that two men in a silver vehicle were seen attempting to set the bike alight.
After failing to burn the motorbike both individuals fled the scene. The motorbike was handed back to the owner.
