ONE INJURED AFTER BAKKIE OVERTURNS: VERULAM

One person was injured after the bakkie he was travelling in overturned on Hazelmere Road in Canelands on February 10. Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the scene by a motorist requesting assistance for the injured man. The front-seat passenger sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Osindisweni Hospital. It is alleged that while travelling down Hazelmere Road the driver of the bakkie attempted to avoid a vehicle in front of him. He lost control of the bakkie which overturned.

HOUSE DESTROYED IN FIRE: VERULAM

Members of Rusa were dispatched to Bridgeford Road in Mountivew, Verulam, after receiving reports of a house on fire on February 10. Fire fighters from the Ethekwini Fire & Rescue Services were on scene extinguishing the blaze. The house was badly damaged.

INTOXICATED MAN ASSAULTED FOR BULLYING PATRONS: VERULAM

A man was severely assaulted after he bullied and threatened to assault patrons at a pub in Todd Street in the Verulam CBD on February 10. Members of Rusa were called out after receiving a call from an employee reporting a fight on the premises. Upon arrival the intoxicated man was found bleeding from an injury to his head. It was established that he was heavily intoxicated when he bullied other patrons. Several patrons ganged up on the man and assaulted him. The injured man was handed over to police.

VEHICLE COLLISION: VERULAM

One person was injured following a collision on the south-bound lane of the R102 near Coniston on February 11. Members of Rusa were dispatched after receiving calls from motorists. Upon arrival it was established that a Hyundai i10 collided with the back of a VW Polo, causing it to spin out of control. A 67-year-old woman who was a passenger in the VW Polo sustained moderate injuries and was treated on scene before being transported to Osindisweni Hospital.

HOUSE BREAK-IN: VERULAM

Members of Rusa were dispatched to a home on Colchester Place in Parkgate, Verulam, after receiving reports of a house break-in that had occurred on February 12. Upon arrival it was established that the rear security gate was forced opened and the panels from the stable door were removed. An undisclosed amount of cash, jewellery and a TV were stolen. Witnesses reported seeing a VW Jetta 2 leaving the property.

PEDESTRIAN KILLED: M4 LA MERCY

A pedestrian was killed after he was run over on the M4 in the vicinity of the La Mercy Lagoon last Monday. Members of Rusa were called out to the scene by passing motorists. Upon arrival it was established that the pedestrian was run over by a Hyundai i30 while he attempted to cross the busy road. The pedestrian was critically injured and was transported to Osindisweni Hospital by a private ambulance. He died en route. The driver of the Hyundai i30 sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Victoria Hospital.

VEHICLE ACCIDENT: R102 VERULAM

One person was injured following a motor vehicle accident in the north-bound lane of the R102 between the Ottawa and Verulam intersection last Monday. Members of Rusa were dispatched after receiving a call from the public. Upon arrival a Hyundai i10 was found facing contra flow. The driver sustained moderate injuries and was transported to hospital. It is alleged that a vehicle in front of him braked suddenly and he veered off the road and into an embankment.
