Suspects Loot Goods Train: Verulam

AT approximately 5.20 am on February 19, members of Reaction Unit South Africa were dispatched to the railway line on Moss Street in the Verulam CBD after receiving a call from a member of public reporting a goods train being looted.

Upon arrival officers noticed the suspects fleeing the scene. A foot pursuit ensued but the suspects managed to evade arrest. It was established that the five suspects stood across the railway line forcing the approaching train to stop. The suspects then began off-loading wooden poles from one of the coaches. Twenty five of the stolen poles that were recovered were handed over to authorities from Metro Rail.

woman Robbed and Raped: Verulam

A 28-year-old woman was raped and robbed in Coniston, Verulam, by three individuals believed to be school pupils. At approximately 11.38 am last Wednesday, members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to a school in the area requesting assistance for the victim. Upon arrival the emotional woman explained that she was employed by the Department of Education to prepare meals for pupils at a primary school.

Shortly after leaving work she was accosted by three individuals on End Street in Conistion. The three were dressed in black pants and white shirts which had a light blue logo on the left breast. The suspects began assaulting the mother of two before they robbed her of her Nokia cellphone. One of the suspects produced a knife and forced her to the ground where he raped her. After he was done the three suspects fled on foot in an unknown direction. The victim made her way back to her place of employment where she sought assistance. The suspects are believed to be pupils who had bunked school. Reaction officers conducted an extensive search for the three but no arrests were made. Police are investigating.

Driver Injured After Truck Overturns: Umdloti

The driver of a Mercedes Benz tip truck was injured after his vehicle overturned on the M27 near Umdloti last Thursday.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the scene by passing motorists reporting the incident. Upon arrival it was established that the truck was loaded with concrete stones and travelling in the direction of the N2. When the driver applied his brake the truck veered off the road and overturned down an embankment. The driver suffered moderate injuries and was treated at the scene by medics before being transported to Osindisweni Hospital.

Attempted Robbery: Tongaat

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to Mitha Road in Mithanager, Tongaat, after receiving reports of an attempted armed robbery last Thursday.

Upon arrival it was established that four occupants of a white Mercedes Benz C200 Compressor had jumped over the boundary wall. The suspects were in the process of forcing open the security gate when they were spotted by the domestic worker who began screaming for help. The suspects then fled from the property.

Reaction officers conducted an extensive search for the suspects however no arrests were made.

Suspect Apprehended: Tongaat

One of four suspects who attempted to rob a woman at the end of Catherine Street in Trurolands, Tongaat, was arrested by members of Reaction Unit South Africa last Friday.

Rusa officers were called out to a home in the area after the victim sought assistance from a member of public. Upon arrival the she explained that while on her way to work she was accosted by four men believed to be under the influence of alcohol. One suspect drew a knife and demanded valuables from the victim. He informed her that they were also going to rape her.

The victim started to scream which scared them off.

She provided reaction officers with a clothing description of the suspects. While on patrol in the Tongaat CBD a Rusa member noticed the suspects. A foot chase ensued in which one suspect was apprehended. The victim was called to the scene and upon arrival positively identified the man as one of the suspects that attempted to rob her. He was handed over to police.

House Break-In Suspect Arrested: Tongaat

A 23-year-old suspect believed to be part of a house break-in syndicate was arrested by members of Reaction Unit South Africa in Topaz Crescent in Belverdere, Tongaat, last Friday.

While on patrol in the area, reaction officers were flagged down by a resident reporting a house break-in in progress in the vicinity. As officers entered the yard they noticed four suspects exiting the home and fleeing on a pathway.

A chase ensued resulting in one suspect being arrested. He was found in possession of a digital video recorder which was stolen from the home. He said that he and three other men were dropped off near the home by an accomplice driving a blue Toyota Rav4.

They proceeded to the residence and forced open the security gate and front door.

They then began ransacking the house. While in the process of removing a wall safe the suspects were disturbed. They fled from the home. It is alleged that their accomplice sped off when he noticed Rusa officers approaching.

An extensive search was conducted for the remaining suspects but no further arrests were made. The suspect was apprehended was injured during his arrest. He was handed over to authorities.

Five Injured In Accident: Ndwedwe

Five people were hospitalised following an accident on Vincent Dickinson Road near Ndwedwe last Saturday.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the scene by a passerby. Upon arrival medics treated five individuals for minor to moderate injuries before transporting them to Osindisweni Hospital.

The five were occupants of a Toyota bakkie and the driver lost control of the vehicle on a sharp bend. The bakkie crashed through a metal barrier and overturned down an embankment. Other motorists freed the injured from the wreck prior to the arrival of emergency services.
