The women, aged 31 and 36, were on route to the airport to board a flight to East London when they lost control of their blue Tata.

A suspect who robbed a motorist was apprehended by members of Rusa near Groom Street in the Verulam CBD last Thursday afternoon.

While on patrol, reaction officers were flagged down by a woman who said that while seated in her vehicle, the suspect had opened her back door and grabbed her handbag. The victim wrestled him for the bag which caused her purse to fall out.

The suspect grabbed the purse and fled on foot.

She pointed officers in the direction the suspect had fled and also provided a description of the clothing he was wearing.

Officers drove down an alley between Wick and Groom streets and spotted the suspect.

The Rusa members pursued and apprehended him in the parking lot of the Railway Hotel. The stolen purse containing its valuables was found in his possession.

The suspect informed officers that he was 17-years-old. This could not be confirmed.

He is believed to be behind several incidents that were reported in recent weeks where unsuspecting motorists were robbed or had their valuables snatched from their vehicles while stationary at traffic lights.

The suspect also confirmed that he is a heroin addict and supports his addiction through a life of crime.
