THE Av-vay-yaarr Kalay Sangam (AKS) under the auspices of the Verulam Cultural Co-ordinating Committee (VCCC) recently hosted the observance of Saint Ramalinga Swamigal’s Remembrance Day at the Sivan Sabay Prayer Centre in Brindhaven, Verulam.

Saint Ramalinga who was born on 5 October 1823 disappeared on 30 January 1874 and is commonly known the world over as Vallalar.

He was one of the most famous Tamil Saints and also one of the greatest Tamil poets of the 19th century, a line of saints known as ‘gnana siddhars’ which means higher wisdom.

Youth members of AKS, dressed as Vallalar, recited his 10 commandments as one of the items presented.

The main speaker for the day was Krishnee Pather who narrated the life story and illustrated the works of Saint Ramalinga Swamigal.

The event was well attended by all prayer service groups in Verulam and the community.
