A 34-YEAR OLD man appeared at the Verulam Magistrate’s Court on charges of burglary on Friday, July 27.

The suspect is accused of breaking into a horse stall in Greylands and stealing horse tack, which included saddles and bridles, to the value of R100 000 on July 26.

Police spokesperson in Tongaat Captain Patrick Ngwane said Vispol members Lieteunant VD Msomi and Warrant Officers RS Gounden and R Narainsamy received a complaint about a break-in at Greyland Horse Stable and acted upon it.

“On arrival, members were informed that the business premises was broken into and seven horse saddles together with bridles to the value of R100 000 were stolen.

“Police conducted an investigation and it transpired that one of the employees was involved in the burglary,” Ngwane said.

Ngwane said that, after intense interrogation by the police, the suspect led the team to a nearby sugarcane field where all the stolen items were found hidden.

Ngwane added: “The stolen property recovered by the police had been loaded into two hay bags for horses.

“A case of burglary was opened and the suspect was arrested. He was detained at SAPS Tongaat police cells,” Ngwane said.

Station commander Colonel Santha Moodley commended the members for their quick response and sterling work that led to the arrest of the suspect.

“This arrest will serve as a strong warning to the perpetrators of crime.”

The suspect will re-appear in court soon.
