THE much anticipated over 35 Open Super Cup hosted by SAFA Verulam LFA, which is part of the associations end of season festivities, came to a close on Sunday, November 12.

The finals saw the fiercest two competitors square off, with local side Mountview Rangers taking on Maxi’s Lifestyle FC all the way from Isipingo.

The visiting veterans were highly motivated after making the trip up the N2 and were determined not to go home empty-handed.

The end result was an interesting affair that ended in a victory by 2-0 in favour of Maxi’s and the inaugural trophy heading down to the South Coast.

SAFA Verulam president Martha Narainsamy said:“All the teams put in spirited performances and played at a highly competitive level and would have given the youngsters a run for their money and we would like to thank all participating teams.” In related news, the SAFA Verulam Plumbsurance Premier League is also coming to an end. The league was rebranded after a generous donation from Plumbsurance.

Plumbsurance owner and CEO Aladeen said: “It gives us great pleasure to attach our name and support local football.Football in Verulam is in need of much needed support from the community and we at Plumbsurance want to ensure football continues to grow back to the glory days of old.”

The next year-ending festivity is the Premier Cup which enters the quarter-final stage on Friday, November 17. This will be followed by the year-ending banquet on November 24 at The Mountview Civic Centre at 6pm. Attendance is open to all association members as well as new teams that wish to join the association.
