PUPILS from Sandfields Primary in Tongaat held a literacy awareness programme at the school to highlight the importance of reading and writing.

The first session was conducted by eight facilitators who had a one-on-one with pupils.

The sessions dealt with topics such as math techniques, road safety, library services, child abuse, swimming and its safety.

Teachers and stakeholders took a pledge to ensure the promotion of literacy and a healthy education system exist. The programme was attended by 320 pupils, 11 teachers and 12 facilitators.
