SAPS commit to protect senior citizens

SAPS Tongaat Visited senior citizens in Flamingo Heights and conducted crime awareness recently.

Police spokesperson Captain Patrick Ngwane said: “SAPS Tongaat management have committed to protect the senior citizens and we have made [this commitment] a priority because senior citizens play an important role in our society, but they are very easily victimised due to their age. People tend to take advantage of them and they make them feel worthless. They are also easy targets and vulnerable [when it comes to] crime.”

Ngwane said the intention of their visit was to sensitise senior citizens about public safety.

“Members of SAPS together with the Victim Empowerment Centre volunteers put together a programme to show them that they are special and still [valued].

“We are there to support them and help them when they are in need. Also they were given health talks and a pampering session was set up. They also had live entertainment and sang and danced to the beat. This initiative was well received by the community.” - Supplied.
