She further explained about the Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEp), which is a tablet that is taken before an exposure to prevent any possible transmission.

Ngwane encouraged people to report cases immediately to the police.

“When making a statement under oath they must tell the truth and nothing else but the truth,” he said. Ngwane explained the consequences of making a false statement under oath to a police officer, saying that making a false statement could result in a person being charged with perjury and sentenced to imprisonment.

He advised the public that those who fall victim to sexual violence must call the crime-stop number at 08600 10111.

“No victim may be turned away simply because the offence took place a long time ago or was committed in the jurisdiction of another station,” Ngwane said.

Members of the CPF, Umbhayi Crime Forum and farm workers applauded the initiative taken by the SAPS in conjunction with the MRC.
