AN informal home near Ireland Street, Verulam was engulfed in flames at the weekend.

Head of Reaction Unit SA (Rusa) Prem Balram said upon arrival, Rusa officers found the shack completely engulfed by the flames.

"The eThekwini Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the fire," said Balram. "Details as to how the fire started are unclear at this stage." Verulam SAPS communications officer Warrant Officer Mark Prakasim said no foul play is suspected. "We will await the findings from the fire department and then proceed with any further investigations if needed," said Prakasim.

Prakasim said nobody was injured in the fire.
