Shots fired at hijack victim

AT approximately 11.58 pm on the night of August 24, members of Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) were called out to Tyson Road in Waterloo, Verulam, after receiving reports of shots being fired at a residential property.

Upon arrival, the victim informed reaction officers that, shortly after parking his vehicle at his home, he was accosted by an armed man. The suspect robbed him of his car keys before he attempted to force the victim into his residence. The man resisted and pushed the gunman away.

Residents in the area heard the gun shots and, upon investigation, were informed of the incident by the victim.

The suspect was in the process of starting the vehicle when residents began pelting him with stones, preventing him from getting out of the vehicle on the driver’s side. The suspect then broke the passenger window and fled the scene on foot.

Reaction officers conducted an extensive search of the area however no arrests were made.
