SKISA hosted Japanese karate maestro, Masao Kagawa 9th Dan black belt technical workshop at the Tongaat Sports Centre last Friday.

The maestro, chairman of the Japan Karate Federation, was extremely impressed with the high standard of karate on display throughout the evening’s workshop.

“I am happy to see the youth so enthusiastic about their karate practice in South Africa. Children here are eager to improve their karate skills.”

Karate South Africa President, Sonny Pillay Hanshi, who arranged the workshop was full of praise for the international karate legend.
“Master Kagawa is unbelievably flexible with outstanding kicking ability. Moreover, it seems as if his body is made of rubber and springs the way he stretches in executing his brand of karate that remains unique indeed.
“I am very encouraged to see how well our local karate children and seniors coped with the master’s advanced techniques that he shared with all participants during the two-hour seminar.”

Head coach of the Protea karate team Brando Pillay Shihan, the chief host of the masters, said he was impressed with the speed and power exhibited by Masao apart from his brilliance on the karate floor.
