ARTWORK requires dedication and creativity in order to produce the best.

Katelyn Naidoo (10) from Verulam is making her parents proud with her artwork by drawing and painting scenes around her.

Katelyn’s passion for art began in 2012 after she visited her aunt in New Zealand.

Katelyn, a Grade 5 pupil from Maidstone Primary told the Weekly she expresses her feelings by drawing and painting.

Katelyn’s collage is a collection of portraits that portray her surroundings ranging from nature to wild animals.

When asked about her source of inspiration she said: “It will probably be my aunt from New Zealand. I visited her in 2012 and saw her paintings. I want to see myself being a great artist in future.”

Her mother Thiloshini Naidoo said: “She is a free spirited child that always found expression in her artwork. We noticed her talent in drawing from the time we lived in New Zealand. I would say from about six years old. She often drew pictures of her surroundings.
“Her source of inspiration comes from her experiences in life and the way she sees life, through the innocent eyes of a child.”

Katelyn took part in the Little Miss India contest a few years ago and was also crowned first princess at Ice Models.
Most of her paintings are displayed at home, her grandmother’s house and her mother’s office.

Katelyn studies art at school under the supervision of art teacher, Mrs Whitehead.

“No one in the family paints. It is a talent she picked up on her own. It is purely a gift from God. Her dream is to go to New York and do a painting of the Statue of Liberty,” said Thiloshini.
