THE 16 Days of Activism Against gender-based violence campaign kicked off in Tongaat on Monday, November 26.

The campaign runs every year from November 25 to December 10.

Representatives from Tongaat Haven of Rest, in conjunction with Tongaat SAPS, held a placard demonstration at the intersection of Watson Highway and High Street in Tongaat CBD to commemorate the 16 Days of Activism Against Women and Child Abuse campaign.

The event in Tongaat preceded the main event on Sunday, November 25 where Minister in the presidency responsible for women, Bathabile Dlamini, officially launched the 16 Days of Activism campaign.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the campaign.

The Director at Haven of Rest

Halfway House for substance users Shushie Govender said: “Haven of Rest, as an NGO and community-based organisation who offers help and support to abused women and children, took to the streets to speak out against women and child abuse through a placard demonstration.

“Together with SAPS, we took action to support the 16 Days of Activism for no violence against women and children campaign,” she added.

For more information on the campaign, or to report a case of abuse, contact the Tongaat SAPS at 032 944 9901.
