A CAR that was hijacked in the Amaoti area was recovered during a crime prevention operation held in Verulam recently.

According to Verulam SAPS, three suspects hijacked the car from a victim in Amaoti.

Police spokesperson Captain Henry Kisten said: “The victim was at home when approached. The armed suspects intruded into her home and demanded car keys. The suspects drove away with her car, which was an Hyundai I20.

“Our members were patrolling the area when they noticed an abandoned vehicle near the side of the road. The vehicle was checked out for ownership and the police found that it was taken in a carjacking incident.”

In the second case, two unknown suspects hijacked a car in Mhlasini area last week.

“The suspects robbed the victim of his household items and demanded car keys. The vehicle that was taken was also a Hyundai.

“The members were patrolling in the morning when they noticed a Hyundai vehicle parked on the side of the road. The vehicle was checked.

“After further investigations it emerged that it was taken in a carjacking incident.

“The members of the Crime Prevention unit were complimented in recovering the vehicles and conducting patrols in the crime hotspot areas,” Kisten said.
