A MAN (52), who was accused of throwing stones onto passing cars, was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm in Buffelsdale, Tongaat on Monday, May 22.

According to the information received from Tongaat SAPS, Tongaat Crime Prevention members, Sergeant TM Govender and Constable SV Khakhi had received information about a man throwing stones onto passing motorists on the R102 near Buffeldale.

Police spokesperson in Tongaat Warrant Officer Manisha Maharaj-Marie said in a statement: “Upon arrival [the police] noticed a man fitting the description of the suspect.

“When the police searched him, a silver 9mm Norinco was recovered with live rounds of ammunition. He was not in possession of a license. He resisted and put up a fight, but was arrested. He appeared at Verulam Magistrate’s court on Tuesday.”
Station Commander Colonel Santha Moodley commended members on excellent work and encouraged the community to come forward with any suspicious activity.
