TWO suspects who were allegedly assaulted by angry community members in Waterloo on November 17 have lodged a complaint at the Verulam Police Station.

According to police, the community claimed that the two men had attempted to steal a vehicle in the area. The men were allegedly assaulted with knobkerries, stones, and boulders and their vehicle was set alight.

Police sources in Verulam confirmed that the two men were the victims however it was not clear as to why the community had suspected the two men of attempting to steal a car.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said: “A case of attempted murder was opened at Verulam police station after two people were attacked by the community members.

“It is alleged that the community attacked two people who were at Hammonds flats, Waterloo yesterday [Saturday] morning. The injured men were taken to hospital.”
