TONGAAT SAPS Crime Prevention members arrested four suspects, aged 23 to 29, for vigilantism at Rajkumars Informal Settlement on August 29. It’s alleged that on August 28 at 2.30pm, the four went to the victim’s house and forced him out.

Tongaat SAPS spokesperson Captain Patrick Ngwane said: “They accused him of hiding stolen goods and assaulted him.”

A case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm was opened at Tongaat SAPS.

“Detective Warrant Officer SG Naidoo and his team investigated the case and arrested all four at Rajkumars Informal Settlements on August 29.”

The suspects were detained at Tongaat SAPS. All accused appeared at Verulam Magistrate’s Court on August 30.

“Vigilantism refers to any person who takes the law into his or her own hands. This also refers to a person who illegally punishes an alleged lawbreaker, or participates in groups which deal out extra-legal punishment to an alleged lawbreaker. It is illegal to participate in vigilantism and is punishable by law.
