PUPILS from different schools around Tongaat attended the Take A Child to Work Day campaign at the Tongaat police station on May 22.

The aim of the campaign is to expose young pupils to the real work environment and share advice about career choices.

Different departments from the SAPS addressed the Grade 12 pupils on different careers within the police. The initiative has become a nationwide campaign since its inception that was initiated by Cell C in early 2003. This year marks the 16th year since Cell C has been empowering pupils through its campaign.

The pupils from different high schools in Tongaat had an opportunity to learn about various departments within the SAPS and what they entail.

Warrant Officer Jadu from the forensics department in the SAPS advised the pupils to refrain from criminal activities.

“It can take close to 10 years to clear your criminal record after your fingerprints have been captured into the system. When you go for a job interview, it becomes a problem if your criminal record isn’t clear,” Jadu said.
