A WATERLOO taxi boss was shot dead and another person was seriously injured after an unknown suspect opened fire on their parked car.

The two had parked their vehicle on the side of the road in Waterloo, in Phase Six, when the incident happened.

According to a statement issued by the Reaction Unit South Africa to the media, the driver was shot multiple times on his body and died at the scene.

The woman with the deceased was taken to hospital.

“The occupants of the unknown vehicle opened fire on the driver.

The suspects then drove further down the road before one of the occupants got out and proceeded back to the Toyota Corolla that the victims were in.

He then fired more shots at the driver before they fled.

Two other female witnesses, who were also in the vehicle, were not injured,” read the report.

Police spokesperson in Verulam Captain Henry Kisten said a case of murder and attempted murder were opened.

“The motive for the attack is not known at this stage and we cannot say if the incident is related to taxi violence.

No arrest has been made at this stage, our investigations are underway,” Kisten said.

The death of the taxi boss has led to concern among the leaders in the community.

CPF chairperson Duncan Dube sent his condolences to the family of the deceased.

“It’s painful to hear such stories of our people in the community being killed in this shocking manner,” Dube said.

Attempts to obtain comment from the Zamukulungisa Taxi Association were unsuccessful at the time of going to press.
