CHECKOUT Verulam Falcons celebrated Hillcrest Villager’s 40th anniversary half marathon over the weekend. The famous old main road, which is part of the comrades’ route, was the starting pointing of the race.

Runners received a commemorative 40th anniversary T-shirt and medal along with a goodie bag. Thulani Hlongwane, from Checkout Verulam Falcons AC completed his back to back Hillcrest Marathon as the first marathon finisher for the club.

Hlongwane is a consistent marathon runner and ran a comfortable 3:47, to match the previous years’ time.

Val Naidu dominated the Falcons’ half marathon finishers in a time of 2:13.

Team Falcons experienced a proud moment when Farouk Kadwa achieved a marathon personal best time of 4:59.

Kadwa returned to long distance running after four years break and his success stems from his dedication as well as the support and mentorship from Falcon’s Morning Training Group.

The development league, Asmal’s HyperSave Series held its eighth leg last Sunday. Eddie Singh, another consistent member, led the 15km walkers.

Bilal Meya was at the forefront with the 15 km run. Meya joined the league mid-year 2015 and is an emergent strong runner. New member Christy Ruthnum topped the 10km walkers.

Ari Perumal ran a prolific 10 km in 55 minute. Mumtaz Sayed led the 5km walkers, alongside newcomers Sameera Sayed and Junaid Khan.

The Checkout Verulam Falcons AC will like to encourage the community to embrace a healthier lifestyle by joining its membership.
