MEMBERS of Teenagers Against Drug Abuse (Tada) held a drug and alcohol awareness day at Seatides Combined School to promote a free-drug society in Tongaat recently.

The intention was to raise awareness about alcohol and drug abuse.

Social worker Nolwazi Khumalo said Tada plays a pivotal role in schools and the community.

“We go out to the community and schools in Tongaat raising awareness about social ills,” she said.

She said that their main objective is to thwart the spread of drug abuse.

“We recently held a drug awareness campaign in Buffelsdale because we believe there are gangsters in the community who influence the youth to take drugs.

“Tada has made a remarkable contribution convincing residents and schools to partake in all our outreach projects.

“Much progress has been made since the inception of Tada and the community is starting to warm to the idea,” Khumalo said.

She urged the public to form Tada groups in their areas that will act as a watchdog to prevent the scourge of drugs from spreading.
