TONGAAT Cricket Club clinched their first victory in their opening game of the 2016/2017 KZN Castle T20 series against Chatsworth United with a decisive win by 8 wickets on Sunday.

Tongaat Cricket Club won the toss and elected to field. Anthony Pillay and Rishen Madhoe lead the bowling attack.

Pillay (3-2-11) demonstrated excellent bowling upfront as he rumbled Chatsworth’s top order claiming two quick wickets. Tongaat then introduced their spinners, and this brought debutant Bradley Gounden and Priyesh Bachu into the attack.

Gounden, Tongaat’s ‘destroyer’, showed an excellent display of spin bowling finishing with figures of 4-4-10. Tongaat’s spinners cleaned up Chatsworth’s middle and lower order with Bachu (3-1-21). Joelin Naidu claimed the last wicket of his first delivery of the game (0.1-1-0) as Tongaat Cricket Club bowled out Chatsworth United for a dismal 56.

Tongaat headed the run chase with openers Ushveer Mungal and Kavil Madhoe.

Mungal (4) was caught out early in his innings, as Madhoe (15) showed and excellent display of big hitting as he was caught out by a stunning display of fielding and team work by Chatsworth United. This brought into the attack, Theoshan Naidoo (13*) and Dharmesh Suklall (20*) who together steadied the ship and took Tongaat to an empathic win over Chatsworth United.

Bradley Gounden received the Danny Noharis Man of the Match token for his great performance on debut.

Members of Tongaat Cricket Club are urging the community to get behind them and support the exciting games of cricket played by local talent. - Supplied.
