TONGAAT Panthers Athletic Club (TPAC) held their AGM and awards ceremony at Victoria Primary School recently.

Chairman Lajeeth Maharaj thanked Anesh Rampertab for sponsoring the Thinny’s Sunday Challenge and encouraged the general public to join in the new wave of a Keep Fit Programme.

Maharaj also encouraged the club members to introduce one new member each to the club for 2016 to spread health and well being among the community.

He also pledged to initiate a School Development Programme to encourage the youth to become more actively engaged in sporting programmes.

At the awards ceremony, all participants received trophies for the Thinny’s Challenge which has become very popular at the club.

All comrades finishers also received tokens for their efforts.

The star on the night was undoubtedly Sajida Abdool who completed her 20th consecutive Two Oceans Marathon.

She is the only lady in KZN to have achieved such an honour.

Maharaj was very upbeat about the recent growth and activity at the Club and is hopeful that the future of the Club and the Sport is bright.

Mr Maharaj announced that Panthers won’t be hosting a Marathon in 2016 as there are too many marathons in KZN during the year but the popular 32km Road Race will be back on the calendar.

To encourage local participation a 10km run/walk and a 21 run/walk will also be introduced.

The new race will take place on Sunday 16th April 2016 from the Outspan Grounds.

Maharaj was re-elected as chairman and Logan Govender as vice chairman.

The club stalwart, Mr Krish Naidu was re-elected as treasurer for the 22nd successive year and Keshnee Maharaj was re-elected as the secretary.
