Unidentified human skull found in Verulam

A HUMAN skull was found inside a bush near the Verulam steel bridge on Saturday, November 10.

According to Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), an employee working for a local factory made the discovery on Iron Street.

Rusa head Prem Balram said in statement that Rusa officers were called out to the scene after the member of the public had made the discovery.

“Upon arrival Reaction officers were led through a hole in a wire fence separating the bush from the sand pit.

“The skull was found several meters below a bridge which services a railway line. One of the front teeth has a silver cap. No other bones were discovered in the vicinity,” Balram said.

Police spokesperson in Verulam Captain Henry Kisten confirmed the find, saying: “A human skull was found inside a bush near the steel bridge. Police opened an inquest.”
