UTHONGATHI FC has signed Johnny Ferreira as the new head coach, replacing Sammy Troughton who took over from former coach Ronnie Gabriel.

Pitso Dladla, who was sacked in January with Gabriel, was reappointed to serve as assistant coach.

The appointment of Ferreira comes amid concerns about the team not performing well in the National First Division. Troughton’s contract was not renewed and he was released from his duties.

Spokesperson for the team Nkosinathi Chili said Ferreira and Dladla have assumed their duties.

“He was in Polokwane attending the play-offs to see if we could source experienced players for our team.

“He reported back to the team that he saw some of the experienced players in the play-offs,” Chili said.

He said the management of the team is trying to inject new blood into the team. “We want to strengthen the performance of the team because we do not want to repeat mistakes we made last year. We need experienced players in the team who will take it to greater heights.

“We are looking at 26 players,” Chili said.
