VAC closes the season

THE Verulam Athletic Club closed its official airport runs season for 2017 with a double header time trial and Airport run.

Sipho Silangwe led team VAC in the 8km Saturday run in 37 minutes with junior Thabiso Gumede running stride for stride. Krish Naidoo and Velvan Nair followed through in 51 minutes, two minutes ahead of Anita Sewnarain.

Ravi Naidoo followed closely a minute later with newcomer from Ndwedwe Luyanda Ndlovu pacing each other.

VAC sportswoman of the year Shirley Narainsamy, came through in a moderate one hour. Raeesa Bayat made a welcome return to running after an injury prone layoff in 1.13 with Beena Maharaj.

Ben Padayachee and Ronnie Rangasamy completed the 8km run and walk.

Tharushka Sookoo, Rajesh Ramdhularie and Reema Harripersadh completed the 4km in 45 minutes , whilst Dolly Moodley and Kriishnee Naidoo followed through in 1.10. Sunday's final 2017 airport run saw Anand Naidoo lead the 10km in 1.03 ahead of Sundree Ramlagan in 1.43.

Tharushka Sookoo completed her weekend double in 1.45 with Joey Chetty also in 1.45. Ben Padayachee led team VAC in the 12km in 1.26 ahead of Shirley Narainsamy in 1.34. Beena Maharaj eased through three minutes later. Thabiso Gumede led the 15km run in 1.11, with Krish Naidoo and running comrade Velvan Nair easing through in 1.27.

Anitha Sewnarain led the female team in 1:43. Udeshan Phillip returned in 1.46 with Dolly Shamlall finishing a minute later Alan Govender used the extended run to test his recovery from a recent injury with a 2.05 finish, ahead of VAC walker of the Year Ronnie Rangasamy in 2.09.

Members of the club are reminded that while the official 2017 weekend league has ended, training runs continue on Saturdays and Sundays from 5am at Gaterite centre. - Supplied.
