VAC on a summer double header

THE Verulam Athletic Club embarked on its summer double header series this weekend with the South Ottawa and Airport Runs consecutively.

Velvan Nair, Krish Naidoo and Menzi Enoch led the 15km run in 1:23, with Krish Naidoo and Enoch Menzi preparing for the forthcoming qualifiers.
Leading female runner Joyce Ngidi led the females in 1:29 ahead of Mantombi Fire in 1:37.

Dolly Shamlall and Shirley Narainsamy came through in a moderate 2.00 and 2.02 respectively followed by grandmaster Jayce Moodley.

Vukani Maphumulo led the 12km run Siphi Silangwe and junior Thabiso Gumede in a sub 1:55 finish showing early form ahead of returning Simon Blose and Andrew Dlamini. Smiley Naidoo led the walkers in the 12km walk in 1:38 ahead of Ronnie Rangasamy, and Beena Maharaj in 1:50.
Pam and Tharushka Sookoo came through in 1:53 while Dominic Govender, Vishnu Moodley and novices Saga and son Priyen Govender completed the 12km in 2:36.

Anand Naidoo led team VAC in the 10km race in 1:07 followed by spouse Sarah Naidoo in 1:17.

Raeesa Bayat, Cynthia Zondi and Logan Naidoo followed through in credible times. The 5km saw Anand Naicker easing in despite nursing an injury with Dolly Moodley in 1:04. Juniors and newcomers continue to inspire despite their ages with Sphelele, Andile, Smangele Zuma, Nomzamo Ngubane and Zinhle Mthethwa easing through in 50:13.

The public is reminded that this free event takes place every Saturday and Sunday at 5am from New Shoprite (Gaterite centre ) and is open to the public with no obligations. Those wishing to renew KZN and licences and Verulam Athletic Club membership for 2018 may do so at the weekend runs.
The is no change from 2017 registration and membership fees and VAC remains the cheapest club on the North Coast. - Supplied.
