VAC runner secures early Comrades’ qualifier

ONE of the runners from the Checkout Verulam Falcons, Logan Pillai led his club at the Goss and Balfe Sapphire Coast Marathon on Sunday, October 29.

Pillai comfortably finished the 42.2km in 4:40 to secure an early comrades 2018 qualifier.

Bhekithemba Ncube was in iron man mode as he completed another marathon.

The marathon went back to its previous route where runners started in Scottburgh and finished in Amazimtoti. The half marathon started in Alfredcombe station.

The race was along the coastline where athletes are exposed to sea winds, the baking sun, harsh road surfaces and rolling hills.

Falcons’ chairperson Yunus Doba had an invigorating 21.1 km run and finished 2:12.

Amres Moodley and Agnes Sangweni followed him with solid runs, while Eddie Singh walked the half marathon in 2.41.

The 32nd Leg of of Asmal’s Hypersave was also held on Sunday for the members who could not make the over 50km journey to the South Coast.

There was bumper participation as it was the last race for 2017 mileage period.
