A CONTINGENT of enthusiastic Checkout Verulam Falcons athletes participated in the Hope Challenge organised by eThekwini AC over the past weekend.

The run attracted a large field of runners as they assembled outside the Curries Fountain stadium in Durban.

It was a great opportunity for runners to assemble and soak up the atmosphere of the now forgotten, yet historical and legendry, stadium.

Participants were greeted with perfect weather conditions however, as they set off in banter the smiles soon disappeared as the two-lap route was not for the feint-hearted.

Participants had to negotiate rolling hills and steep descends circling the Musgrave and Morningside suburbs. The route was so tough that many who aspired to complete the 21km quietly slipped out after the first lap and completed the 10km.

However, complaints seized once one crossed the finish line after the difficult race.

Checkout Verulam Falcons walkers had lots to cheer about - Eddie Singh and Celiwe Ndaba both finished with podium finishing times and were extremely excited to having being placed over such a challenging course.

Meanwhile, locally Falcons members participated in the third leg of the Asmals Hypersave Series as part of the 2016/17 calendar.
