VERULAM 2 are prepping for their T20 league challenge which begins later this month after their final 40 over Challenge Reserve game away to Newlands EK was washed out at the weekend.

The washout leaves Verulam on 24 points and second on the log behind Crusaders Cricket Club.

Despite a good season with bat and ball and recording seven wins and two losses, three washouts over the season cost the local side a chance at the title.

Club manager, Santosh Premlal said the washout at the weekend was disappointing as the players wanted to finish the league on a high note.

"The boys were also disappointed that we had so many washouts because had we played we could have been in for the title," he said.
"Right now they are all focused and are training hard to see the T20 trophy come home."

Premlal said the squad are brimming with confidence after a solid season with new players and long injury sidelined players returning late last year.

"The boys are looking good with bat and ball," said Premlal. "We have some good hitters and miserly bowlers so we are looking forward to the T20 season."

Last year Verulam lost in the semi-finals, but this year they hope to go all the way.

"The players felt disheartened at the way the league turned out with the rain because at one stage we were on course for the title. They are really hoping to set things straight with winning the T20 league," said Premlal.

The side has been strengthened with the return of their captain after a long foot injury and seasoned players being added to their bowling and batting ranks.
