SAPS Tongaat and SAPS Tongaat Victim Empowerment Centre volunteers conducted cancer awareness at Hotshots Club in line with Breast Cancer Awareness Month on October 28.

The intention behind this initiative was to raise breast cancer awareness and reduce stigma of breast cancer through education about symptoms and treatment.

SAPS Tongaat spokesperson Captain Patrick Ngwane said: “The gatherings were encouraged to do breast cancer screening since it can help detect breast cancer early, when it is easier to treat.

They were encouraged to consult a doctor if they are suspicious of anything pertaining to their health.

“Breast cancer is one of the common diseases among us and does not discriminate as it targets all races and ages.”

The initiative was welcomed by the community and the station commander Colonel Santha Moodley.

Moodley commended the station social crime co-ordinator, Constable Lance Naidoo and volunteers for their commitment and dedication to make change in the community of the SAPS Tongaat precinct. - Supplied.
