THE Jadatharaya International Institute of Right Living and Yoga will be hosting its annual Yogathon at the Tongaat Sports Centre on February 3 from 2 pm to 5 pm.

According to the organising committee, eight yoga groups, from Tongaat in the North Coast to Scotsborough in the South Coast, have registered for the annual showpiece.

A senior member of the organising committee of the 2018 Yogathon, Deepak Folly from Verulam Kriya Yoga Group, said: “The yoga groups have been hard at training over the past few months to illustrate the joys of yoga practice to both the young and senior citizens.”

Suren Pillay, who teaches yoga in Umhlanga, said that the annual Yogathon intends to create awareness of yoga and instil in the prospective participants an interest in practising yoga as a pathway to healthy living.

Pillay said that each yoga group is allocated 10 minutes in which to demonstrate their skills and at the same time create an awareness of the discipline to the public.

“At the end of each session, a group is given a few minutes to introduce their practice at their respective yoga studios.”

Pillay said there will be no entrance charge to the sports centre and the public can look forward to enjoying delicious vegetarian meals with the participating yoga groups.

“As we are expecting a huge turnout of spectators, we urge the public to get to the venue early to book their seats,” Pillay said.

The participating groups are Tongaat Kriya Yoga Group, Verulam Kriya Yoga Group, Umhlanga Kriya Yoga Group and Scotsborough Kriya Yoga Group. They will joined in action by Sunrise Yoga from Verulam, Ananda Marga Yoga (Ottawa), Babaji Kriya Yoga (Umhlanga) and Rao Yoga from Chatsworth.

“The public will be entertained with spectacular displays of yoga that will instil in them a desire to join a yoga group,” Folly said.
