THE youth group from the Verulam Kalay Khazagam (VKK) helped fellow underprivileged pupils from Everest Heights Primary school receive new uniforms, bags, lunch boxes and juice bottles recently.

During 2015 the VKK youth held several fund raising events to raise money to assist underprivileged pupils in schools in Verulam.

VKK PRO Pat Govender said part of the aim of the project was to get the youth involved in helping others.

“It’s an amazing experience for the youth to see the happiness of helping other children and getting involved in community activities,” said Govender.

“We want the youth to learn about the importance of helping others from a young age and hopefully they keep doing so as they get older.”

The initiative has been taking place for several years through the VKK with the youth holding different types of fundraisers.

“We put on different types of shows and host fun runs, dinner and dances and bhangras. We try and do something different each year to raise the funds for the project,” said Govender.

In the recent project, the pupils were each given bags, juice bottles, lunch boxes, pants and shirts for the boys and dresses with a slip for the girls.

“We thank all those who assisted us during our fund raising drives and it is through you all in our community that we can continue to assist where we can,” said Govender.

Govender congratulated the youth group on succesfully raising the funds for the project and bringing smiles to the pupils at Everest Heights Primary School.
