THE Kokstad MOTH (Memorable Order of Tin Hats) hosted a Remembrance Day parade at Tipperary Shellhole at the corner of Barclay Street and Elliot Street last Sunday, November 11. The event marked 100 years since the end of the First World War, also known as Armistice day.

Members of armed forces who had died in the line of duty during the First World War were also remembered by the laying of wreaths by relatives and the public, and there was a moment of silence.

“The Remembrance Day is observed on November 11 to recall the end of the hostilities in the First World War. About 11 million troops from all countries had died and this was called the war of all wars,” said Willem van de Kamp, who made the opening remarks at the event. MOTH members put together a parade which included the singing of hymns and spiritual readings.
