MORE than 500 high-school pupils in Kokstad will attend a homecoming event hosted by Greater Kokstad Municipality Mayor Nosisa for Shayamoya-born Nasiphi Sobahle, the reigning Miss Africa Tri-state at the Kokstad town hall today.

Speaking to the Fever, Sobahle said she is excited about the event.

“I really appreciate the love and support the people of Kokstad have shown me,” she said.

She is expecting friends and family who will come from as far Port Elizabeth, Johannesburg and Durban.

Preparations for another celebration in Shayamoya are under way.

“The second function will be traditional it will be at my home in Shayamoya right after the main event in the hall. Sheep have already been slaughtered, traditional beer prepared, food cooked and chairs set in the tent for the celebrations. What’s interesting about the traditional event is that it will be recorded and will later be aired on an American TV channel,” she said.

The winter drive, arranged to donate gloves and socks to pupils in farm schools, has been postponed due to shipping delays as the goods were due to come from the United States.

“We are postponing the winter drive for now. As soon as the cargo arrives the drive will resume. We expect that to be at mid-May,” she said.

The homecoming event starts at 10am today
