Matatiele Local Municipality viewpoint

WARM greetings to all readers of this viewpoint.

Youth Month

We are once again in Youth Month and 16 June is the day we stand up to honour the spirit of young martyrs who laid down their lives so we may be free today. This year marks 39 years since 1976. Our government is very aware of the challenges the youth face - unemployment, HIV/Aids, youth involved in crime, and poverty. While these challenges might be different from those experienced by the youth of 1976, today’s youth are still expected to volunteer to rebuild their communities. This demands that they seize the opportunities brought about by democracy and work both with government and the private sector to uplift themselves from poverty, ignorance and lack of skills.

Let us celebrate this day, 16 June, 1976, remembering the death of hundreds of Soweto schoolchildren - a day that changed the course of the South African history.

2015/2016 Infrastructure projects

The following projects will be implemented in the 2015/ 2016 financial year: Mnqayi Access Road in Ward 5, Manase Access Road in Ward 3, Soloane Bridgein Ward 24, Mvenyane Community Hall in Ward 21 and Matatiele internal streets, phase 2, area C - Harry Gwala. Through these projects the municipality is certain that more job opportunities will be created for the community.

Deputy minister of energy visits Matatiele

The Department of Energy and Eskom have electrified more than 600 households in Ramafole Village in Ward 24.

The Deputy Minister of Energy, Ambassador Thembisile Majola accompanied by the Mayor of Matatiele Local Municipality Cllr Momelezi and Councillors and Management will on 15 June at 10am switch on the completed electrification project at Ramafole, which cost R24 million. This occasion will form part of sensitising communities about programmes and projects that will uplift the socioeconomic well-being of South Africans, especially the people of Matatiele Local Municipality.

On the same day, Home Affairs, Sassa and Department of Health confirmed that they will render their services as part of bringing government services closer to the people:

That is all from us for now, till next time, stay safe and be blessed.

Thank you sweet people from sweet Matat, a destination of choice and excellence
