Road accident hot-spot repaired

2015-05-01 06:00

FOLLOWING a report from Fever about the many accidents at the bridge entrance to Bhongweni Township, the Greater Kokstad Municipality has repaired the road. More than six accidents have occurred there because of the bad surface state of the road.

Bhongweni residents the Department of Municipal Infrastructure Planning and Development at GKM completed the tarring of the road, which was previously covered with crush stone, last week.

“The road has been fixed and is in a good condition. Like we said the delay was caused by the late arrival of the material. The municipality has a responsibility of taking care of its citizens and we would have not endangered the lives of the people deliberately,” said GKM spokesperson Sabelo Ncwane

“As the municipality we are concerned about the state of some of the roads in Kokstad however, it is inaccurate to say that the municipality is doing nothing about the matter. Currently we are building roads in Shayamoya and Horse Shoe. The contractor is on site in town to rehabilitate Coulter Street and Barker Street.

“We have completed the Horse Shoe and Shayamoya taxi route, Brownlee, Wylde road, below Usher Memorial Hospital, Groom Street, Sparrow and Fleming drives, so you can’t tell me that’s nothing,” he said.

More roads are to be repaired said the municipality
