All systems go for Himeville bike race

2018-04-27 06:00

ON May 8, the KAP sani2c mountain-bike race will start in Himeville and will continue until May 12.

Gawie Combrick and Nico Bell participated in last year’s race and this year they will be joined by Matt Beers and Wessel Botha.

Beers finished second in the last year’s sani2c race with Tim Hammond, and they have both joined Team Nad MTB club.

Botha (19) has started making waves in the mountain-biking community after winning the 2017, 947 MTB Challenge and he will also be lining up at the sani2c challenge.

Beers and Bell represented Team Nad during the Absa Cape Epic and they finished 15th overall and came third in the men’s category.

Combrick, who did not take part in the Cape Epic, is looking forward to participating in the upcoming Old Mutual joBerg2c.

“Having a bigger team this year means that we can ride in more races but it is important that we still get the results.

“We have tried to put two fresh guys together for the race and we will see how we go at joBerg2c, which is coming soon,” said Combrick.

The Old Mutual joBerg2c is a nine-day bike race from Heidelberg to Scottburg on the South Coast and it will provide an opportunity for the riders to test their fitness ahead of the sani2c.
