ANC vows to fight for more votes

LEADERS of the ANC in the Alfred Nzo region have vowed to do what it takes in order to gain more votes when contesting the general elections next year.

Leaders and members attended a memorial lecture of anti-apartheid activist Albertina Sisulu, held in Matatiele Town Hall on Friday, where they chanted songs and cleaned the town. Delivering the lecture was ANC national chairperson Gwede Mantashe, who called for members to follow in Sisulu’s footsteps. He also called for women to be treated well by men and to be given opportunities.

Sixolile Mehlomakhulu, the Alfred Nzo Regional chairperson, said the party has faced tough times during the preparations for next year’s elections. He said members need to unite and work hard. “It saddened me to see people living in poverty while there is land that can be used to produce food,” he said.

“At 2016 Local Government Elections, Matatiele sub-region lost two voting districts that were won by opposition parties. ANC needs to work hard in order to gain support towards 2019 elections,” said ANC member Thobile Mfene when speaking at the lecture.
