Arrested police officer gets bail

A 43-YEAR-OLD Umzimkhulu Road Traffic Inspectorate Officer was recently released on R5 000 bail by the

Umzimkhulu Magistrate’s Court
On 7 February the officer fined a motorist for a traffic offence and said that if R500 was paid to him the ticket would be destroyed.

The matter was reported to the members of Hawks Anti-Corruption Unit in Durban and the necessary steps were taken. The officer was caught red handed while collecting the money from the complainant and was arrested.

He was charged with corruption and will appear in court again on 7 March.
