DUE to the number of burglaries in Kokstad, the police have warned residents to reinforce security in their yards this festive season. SAPS spokesperson Captain Dumisani Ncongo said residents need to partner with each other to end burglaries. He said residents who take long trips at this time must make sure that security is tight. Between Friday, November 23 and Wednesday, November 28, eight cases of residential burglaries and theft had been opened for investigation in a local police station. One of the residential burglaries was reported in Horseshoe Township where a computer and other items were stolen after thieves broke-in. Another two cases of business burglaries were also opened. “Items costing R7 500 were stolen at a local shop in Kokstad. Another shop owner complained of being targeted by thugs. “Five burglaries and a case of theft are under police investigations,” said Ncongo. He said police will be patrolling during the festive season.
