THE Greater Kokstad Municipality shortlisted candidates for the post of municipal manager on Wednesday. The municipality has been functioning without a municipal manager since February after Zamokuhle Mkhize’s contract expired.

The post was advertised last month and 16 people applied. At the selection of applicants at council chambers, Mayor Beki Mtolo was chairperson of the selection panel, assisted by deputy mayor Karen Walker and Ubuhlebezwe municipal manager, Gamakhulu Sineke.

DA councillor Nomakhosazana Dumisa was an observer, as was the media and farmers’ union representatives.

In the selection process Mtolo read out each applicant’s qualifications and experience.
“There were 16 candidates who applied for the post. I now declare that four applicants have been shortlisted,” said Mtolo.
Screening of shortlisted candidates will follow and interviews will take place within 21 days.

“During the screening process, the panel will check candidates’ reference and verify their qualifications before arranging interviews. I want this process of appointing a manager to be fair and honest.

“Questions will be developed by the panel on the day of interviews,” he said.

The date for interviews has not been announced.
The position will be for a five-year term with a negotiable remuneration package of R877 744 and R1,4 million.
Andile Velem is the acting municipal manager at the moment.
