CFO post to be filled, permanently

2016-04-08 06:00

THE vacant post of a Chief Financial Officer in the Greater Kokstad Municipality is going to be filled permanently next month, but Wandisile Dotye will be acting CFO until the end of April.

The vacant position was raised as a concern by acting municipal manager Nyaniso Msiya at a special council meeting last Thursday.

The position became vacant after Clement Letsoalo, who was acting CFO, was shown the door by council last month.

At a two-hour special council meeting last Thursday, councilors asked that the position be filled as soon as possible.

Msiya raised concerns about the situation, saying that the Auditor-General is going around the municipality and will need answers from the CFO.

Msiya told councillors that if the position is not filled the municipality can expect bad consequences.

ANC councilor Ntobeko Mavuka wanted the matter to be attended to at the next council meeting saying there was no one who has showed an interest in filling the critical position.

DA councilor Leon Kotting stressed that the municipality would be at risk if it can operate without a CFO, and asked council to postpone its IDP roadshows.

ANC councillor, Thozama Madikizela, wanted a 10- minutes break to allow members of the ruling party to discuss the situation and Dotye’s name came up without opposition.

Msiya said interviews of three candidates for a permanent person have been completed.

“Thando Mketsu is the person who passed the interview. During April we are going to forward his details to the provincial Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, but if he declines we will call on the person who came second during interviews.”
