Child’s boyfriend charged with statutory rape

2017-12-08 06:00

ON Tuesday a case of statutory rape was opened in Kokstad Police Station after a 12-year-old girl allegedly had sex with her 18-year-old boyfriend.

The boyfriend has since been arrested.

On Monday, the child went to her boyfriend’s house and stayed with him until Tuesday.

The child hid when her mother went to the boyfriend’s house, and the matter was reported to police.

It is suspected the child had consensual sex with her boyfriend, however, it is illegal for anyone to have sex with an underage girl, and is called statutory rape.

SAPS spokesperson Captain Dumisani Ncongo said the man was arrested and a case was opened and will appear in Kokstad Magistrate’s Court soon. - Supplied
